A Skunk With a Bottle?

In Robert Connors’ essay entitled “How in the World Do You Get a Skunk Out of a Bottle?” Connors analyzes said process of removing a skunk’s head from a jar.  The reason why Connors essay is entitled in the form of a question is probably because he himself wasn’t sure how to approach the situation when he was presented with it. Moreover, the title is quick to capture the reader’s attention, and leaves the reader with a dozen questions, such as “Why would a skunk have a jar on his head?” and “How do you go about removing a jar from a skunks head?”
Most people will probably never find themselves with the task of having to help a skunk that has his head stuck in a jar. However, I believe Connors wrote his essay for many reasons. One reason I believe Connors might have written his essay is so that we can be more aware of the way we dispose of our trash and the impact our trash can have on nature. Another reason I believe Connors wrote his essay was so that we would be more willing to lend a hand in aid to animals that are in distress.
In his essay, Connors tries to convey a message of how everything is interconnected and how everything we do affects other things and people. While something as simple as leaving a jar of baby food might seem insignificant to us, in reality it could have various adverse effects in nature. Connors himself was able to save the life of the poor skunk whose skunk became captured in a jar, however it begs the question as to how many innocent animals have suffocated because our carelessness. Perhaps this is the very reason why Connors ends his essay with him and the skunk looking at each other before parting ways because it makes it seem as if the skunk is curious to Connors motivations for helping him.
